Mad About Math!

Parents,
We've had an exciting week of skill review to begin our year! The Rocket Math program, which I described at Back to School night, will be a continued effort to ensure all students have a firm grasp of their math facts, beginning with addition and moving up to subtraction, and eventually multiplication and division. This week we took 2 tests per day, with lots of practice in between. Beginning next week, we will take just one test a day, and it will come home in the green folder at night. Please celebrate your child's passed levels, and help review nightly for the next day's test. This practice is done orally, should not take more than 1-2 minutes, but is crucial for keeping the momentum moving forward. In the past 4 days, our 26 students have passed a total of 116 levels!! WOOHOO!

One of the games we played this week was from Math Playground, which has  games that reinforce a wide variety of skills, facts, and concepts- everything from addition, to fractions, to algebra. It's free and a lot of fun!
Math checkers was another fun game this week. Students add sums to move across the board. Eventually, they will multiply, too!

Students played Addition War and High and Low, too. Both of these games are simple and easy to play at home, with just a deck of cards or some dice!

On Monday we will be using our text books and notebooks. Please help your student cover their book if it hasn't been done yet.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gausman
