As we are coming to an end of our Colonial days, I wanted to share some online resources that will help your child review the information that we have covered. And, of course, we need to celebrate the many fun things we did in class during Colonial Week!
Click on this link for an interactive map game to help your child review their map skills and geography of the 13 colonies.
Study Stack is a FREE online program that generates flashcards and a variety of interactive games to help review information. To view our class Study Stack on Colonial facts, click here.
The brochures look fantastic! I look forward to reading through them all this weekend. Thank you for all your support at home in completing our first project of the year!
Colonial Week
The colonists had an opportunity to experience many activities throughout the week. I heard about candlelit dinners, reading by candle, and many tales of board games (instead of video games!) played by families during our "Unplugged" week. I hope that you all enjoyed your visit to a 'simpler' time :)
Monday we went outside to learn a variety of colonial games; such as 9-Man Morris (similar to tic-tac-toe and checkers combined), Graces, badminton, and hopscotch.
Tuesday, Mrs. Ray came in and taught the students how to stitch a sampler on burlap. We also made hand-dipped candles.Wednesday, we baked Colonial Brown Bread and 'churned' our own butter- Yum!
And, finally, on Thursday we took our first field trip of the year to the Old Aurora Colony! Students were able to visit a blacksmith's shop, a woodworking shop and grist mill, a period home, and the colony museum. Thank you to all my driver volunteers for making this trip possible!
