Confession time- the past few weeks have been filled with a TON of great things, but I've been too busy to update the blog. So, please bear with me as I fill today's post up to the brim with Awesomeness, rather than breaking it into smaller posts. Be sure to scroll all the way down to catch it all!
Hearing and Sound, and our trip to EMP!
February 28th we had an extended-day trip to Seattle to visit the Experience Music Project, as part of our unit on hearing and sound. Students had an opportunity to explore rooms about Science Fiction and Fantasy, Lego skycrapers, and the Sound Lab! In the lab, everyone got to try out as many instruments as they wanted. Thanks to Mr. Littledyke for facilitating the explorations. Groups also had an opportunity to play in a rock band! Thanks again to the parent volunteers who helped make the day a success!

Vision and the Eyes
This week we started our new unit with a lab with Dr. Currey. She brought in 3 cow eyeballs for students to hold, examine, and help dissect! Ewwww, it was really amazing!
Ancient Rome
Earlier in the week, we went to the Art room to do some upside-down drawing. We were learning about how the image projected onto the retina is upside down, and the brain "re-flips" it. We found out how our left and right sides of our brains process information differently, and that by drawing an image upside down, we allow our right-brain to take over. And I learned that 3rd graders have learned a cool Bob Marley song in music class. They surprised me with a spontaneous performance while they drew!
And finally, our Roman Legacy Tour!
Friday we travelled around Gresham to visit three modern examples of Roman Legacies. Our first stop was at the Gresham Waste Water Treatment Facility. If any parent chaperons have pictures, please share!
Our 2nd stop was at the Vista House at Crown Point. We met a volunteer who kindly filled us in on the history of the location- one with surprising Viking roots! Did you know this site was originally named Thor's Point? And that the building is based on a German artist's depiction of Valhalla? While we were here to look at the dome, arches, stained glass, marble floors, and other Roman elements, it was great to have such a neat connection to one of our previous units. 
Our next stop was at the Gresham Outlook newspaper. The editor gave us a tour of the entire process- from ad development and reporting, all the way through the printing process.
And, finally, our last stop on the tour was back to CHPCS. Gladiator Weaver had a full program of Gladiator Games ready for battle!

Whew! What a week! Students should continue working on their Legacy projects. Rough drafts are due on Monday. We will edit and work on final drafts in class this week. Projects are due the Monday after Spring Break. Thank you for your support at home. I look forward to seeing their Roman creations!
