Upcoming Events in 3rd Grade

Parents,
With only 40 days left in the school year, we have many exciting plans to look forward to! Here are the highlights of things to come!

Our Ecology Unit has begun!
This week we started our new science unit- Ecology! If you have any empty 2 liter bottles, please send them in on Monday. We will begin building our own habitats this week! 

Spring MAPS Assessments
We begin our Spring MAPS this week! 3rd grade students will have assessments on:
Tuesday, 4/8 (math)
Thursday, 4/10 (reading)
Monday, 4/21 (science)
Tuesday, 4/22 (language)
Results will be shared with parents via the Student Portfolios after all assessments are complete (likely by the last week of April). I have seen some amazing growth in class this year, and am looking forward to seeing how far we've come!

Spring K-4 Music Concert
Mr. Littledyke and the 3rd grade class have been preparing for weeks! Please join us on Thursday, April 17th in the gymnasium. More details will come from Mr. Littledyke soon!

April's Ecology Field Trip
Friday, April 25th is our next field trip. We will be travelling to SCRAP in the morning to take a tour and create some art from recycled materials. After our session, we will travel to Grant Park for lunch before returning to school. From 12:30-2:30, students will be working on a super-secret project (they'll find out that day- sorry, no spoilers!), which will be revealed in a special presentation from 3:00-3:30. Families and friends are welcome to join us for our end of day celebration! 
We will be riding a bus for this trip, however, I am looking for parent volunteers from 8:00-12:30. Please let me know if you are interested!

OAKS Tests
The Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills will begin on Monday, May 5th. More details, including links to practice tests and helpful tips, will be coming soon.

May Astronomy Field Trip
Our last field trip of the year is hands down my favorite! We will be travelling, by bus, to Eugene to take a walking tour of the solar system on Friday, May 30th. We begin at the Sun and walk approximately 3.7 miles to Pluto. We will stop at each planet along the way for an activity- and enjoy lunch near Saturn! After the hike, the bus takes us back to the Science Factory planetarium, for a live show before returning to Portland. This is an extended day trip. We will leave campus around 7:30 am and return between 5:00-6:00 (depending on traffic). 
I need 5 adults for this trip. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.  

Star Gazing Family Camp-out!
Save the date! We will end our year together with a family camp-out at Milo McIver State Park, near Estacada on Saturday, June 7th.  We have the Kingfisher Group site reserved. Each family is responsible for their own tent and camping supplies. Families who prefer not to camp are still invited to come for our potluck/BBQ dinner and star-gazing activities. I will send home a more detailed FAQ/RSVP form the beginning of May.
