Third grade Families,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer full of adventures and fun! I am really excited to be back on campus, busily preparing for my new crop of students. In just one week we'll all be together again, ready to begin a very exciting year! Here are a few important items that will help your family make this transition smoothly.
This Thursday is Open House. Open House is an opportunity for students and families to drop off supplies, get a feel for the classroom, ask quick questions, and say hello to friends. The room will be open from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. If that time slot does not work for you, you are more than welcome to bring supplies on the first day of school. (See the Summer homework tab above for the 3rd grade supply list.)
Wednesday, September 3rd is the first day of school. Doors will open at 7:45 a.m. and students should be in their seats by 8:00 a.m. This weekend is a great time to review the uniform policy, get those white shirts out of storage, and take inventory of healthy items for lunches. Our uniform policy and healthy food policy can be found at http://cascadeheights.org/ parents/school-policies- procedures.html. The most troublesome items tend to be nail polish (none), skirt length (touching the knees), and shoes (only white, black, or brown). The healthy food policy applies to all snacks and lunches. We believe that healthy foods help students be their best and builds healthy bones and brains. That is why we ask that cookies, cakes, chips, fruit snacks, etc remain at home. Whole grains, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and lean meats allow students to function optimally throughout the day. If you need ideas for healthy and easy to pack options please let me know! If your student is planning to have school lunch, you can deposit money in their account at http://www.nclack.k12.or. us/Page/1233 or send a check made out to NC12 with your student’s name on the memo line in an envelope.
Students should arrive at 7:45 a.m. with their supplies (if not dropped off on Thursday), lunch, snack, water bottle, and summer homework. Keep in mind that carline on the first day can take a few minutes longer than usual. If you’re planning to park, please make sure you park in a legal parking spot. We want everyone to have a safe and pleasant first morning.
Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 4th. I will be presenting information about our class content, policies, procedures, trips, volunteer opportunities, and I will have sign ups for fall conferences. B2SN is from 6:30-8:00, with two sessions to accommodate families with multiple students.
Again, I look forward to working with each of you this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gausman
